Now that I’m sure all of you have already gone out to pick up your very own balloon animal packet, let me tell you how I’ve managed to apply this skill. I’m not sure how common this is in different parts of the state, but where I live just outside of Pittsburgh it is pretty much the norm for every street to have a block party. At the block party, the street is blocked off to traffic and all the neighbors come out and mingle amongst each other. There’s lots of food, lots of music, and in the case of my street, lots of kids. So in order to entertain the 40 or so kids on my street, the adults get together beforehand and decide who is going to man the face painting booth, the balloon animal booth and the other various activities that are preplanned. Last year I started working at the balloon animal booth and found out what a big hit these silly figures were with my young and old neighbors. I had to restrict the orders to dogs, flowers, hats and swords, but the kids (and some adults) still loved them. Now, thanks to the website I’ve mentioned in my previous post, I am able to make a wider variety of figures, which will undoubtedly please my customers.
Balloon Tip:
Sometimes the balloon figures can attain a really polished look if you use a Sharpie to make eyes, ears, noses, and smiles are the figures you make.
